Here are the Specs I finally decided on... I wish I could have got the Liteon drives etc in Black but I plan to change the face plates when they arive.

Let me know what ya think...

Pent IV 2.26Ghz (533mhz)
ASUS P4S533 Motherboard w/audio & Lan
Antec SX1030B Chassis (350 Watt PSU) (Black)
Western Digital 80GB 7200 RPM 8M Cache Hard Drive
512 Meg DDR 2700 Ram
MSI Geforce 4-TI4400 Video Card
Logitech Elite Keyboard (USB)
Microsoft IntellieMouse Explorer (USB)
(Don't want the lag from a cordless)
Pioneer 16X DVD-Rom
Acer 32X12x48 CD-RW
Sound Blaster Live Audigy X-Gamer
NEC 19” FE991SB Flat Monitor (Black)
Canon BJC S520 Printer
Logitech Z-560 Speakers

I should have it by Wednsday so I will benchmark it etc and see how it performs.

It would have been nice to get the SIS648 Chipset but the board is not available in Canada here yet...
The Asus P4S8X would have been my choice... I will upgrade my current PIII 550 with this P4S533 and Chip in the future and get a new board a CPU for this on so I have 2 p4 systems that can hold up on a LAN party! {smile}
(Or I will finally get that AMD I wanted... just my luck they fell behind when I decided to buy)

L8r all,
Vince

400+ Watts PSU would have been best.

I think P4s work better with Rambus. Maybe should have used Rambus with p4t533?
August 16, 2002 1:21:34 PM

Yes they do, but RDRAM is more expensive. The RIMMs that you need for the P4T533 is both expensive and rare.

The p4t533 with PC1066 Rambus would be better yes... Not the P4T533 with PC800 Rambus... (It would be a little slower)

Also, Pc1066 Rambus is not available in my area for purchasing and if I did locate some the price would still be too high at this time. I would have loved a I850 Chipset with Pc1066 Rambus but no go...

Also, I would have liked the SIS648 chipset but no go on that yet either.

Actually the P4T533 needs the RIMM4200 or RIMM3200 modules. The P4T533-C can run with the PC800/PC1066 modules.

Nice Configuration,

I use a few of the same parts WD800JB, Antec SX1030B etc =)

Just a few comments, I would suggesta better PSU like Oracle said.. get a 400w+ Enermax just to be on the safe side (if you want to add a few extra components)

Also question, why go with an Acer writer? They're not really known for making quality writers are they? why not just get a Lite-On one wouldn't that be cheaper?

Finally, for your video card I'd go with a Visiontek one, sure it doesn't come with al the fancy add ons but who really needs all the junk, the Xtasy has great performance as Tom has mentioned in his comparison of GF4's. That and I'd spend the extra buck to get the Ti4600.

All Visionteks are pretty much overpriced here in Canada. The MSI is pretty cheap and has a good bundle/features.

True,

I'm from Canada too and they are overpriced, but you could try shipping one across the border or buy one on ebay =) You can get a Visiontek Xtasy GF4 TI 4600 on ebay for around $400-$500 CDN.

MSI has a loud GPU fan, I'm a fan of the quieter fans (har har har fan and fan)

In my part of Canada, Asus offers the cheapest Ti4400, and it also has good features like TV-out.

Chuck, try checking out Ebay, you can definately grab a TI4400 around your price range. Just be wary of the border tax, if you have a friend across the border that is coming back up anytime soon that would be the best to avoid taxes =)

TI4400's are rarely to find on ebay rather than Ti4600 or Ti4200 but they are still quite cheap. If you search long enough you'll get a good deal. I saw someone win a Visiontek Xtasy GF4 TI4600 for $202 american. Which works out to around $300 and it was a legit seller too. I was very angry I missed it >=)

Sorry, got the wrong price list. But still, the Asus and MSI are on par now at 381$CAN. It's out of your range, but the Ti4200 from Asus is 314 though, still with TV-Out. But MSI Ti4200 is lower at 301$CAN.

Hmmm... Yeah, I can get all those cheaper... I dunno though. I'll have to see.

dont use ebay... it sux. I've been scammed 2 times. One for a cd, and another time for a Sound Blaster audigy platinum EX.... not worth the risk.

The greatest risk of all is not taking one!

Chuck with my MSI which is the one I have available just like you, tried for Leadtec or Asus but no go without wait... the MSI TI4400 I got for $369.00 Canadian.

Just so you know.

"not worth the risk."

Yeah, well the cheapest Ti4400 I can get is $359. Although there's a bare MSI one for $335, and it has none of the features like the bundle and VIVO.

JaeSun: But taking a non needed risk is stupid.
