In pre OSX oses I would see a Instant Palm desktop menu at the top of my
screen and I would thus click on it. I see in OSX the same process is
far more complex, as I have to click on the icon in the dock, which is
far harder to see and often dances when I move my cursor over it. Is
there anyway to revert back to the old way?

Ooh, yeah, that sounds complex all right.

Of course it dances out of the way. It doesn't want to be clicked.

I saw something today that reminded me of you:

"There are a lot of genuinely decent religious people out there, but
their quiet good work is constantly being undone by the nutters that
are getting in the press all the time."

If the icons in the dock are too small, go to Dock preferences[1] and
increase the Dock Size. If they "dance" around too much for you,
uncheck the box next to Magnification to turn magnification off, or
move the slider towards Min to reduce the amount of magnification.

Hopefully that should make the dock more usable in general, which
should help with more than just Palm-related stuff.

[1] Either go to System Preferences and select Dock, or control-click
on some empty part of the dock (such as the dividing line between
the trashcan and the other icons) and select "Dock Preferences...".
