WINDOWS XP, SISOFT SANDRA AND AMDS CPU INFO ALL STATE THAT I HAVE AN AMD ATHLON 1800+ RUNNING @ 1.46GHZ?, BUT THEN I SEE THAT SISOFT SANDRAS PROCESSOR COMPARES MY ATHLON 1800+ WITH THEIR 1800+ WHICH COMPARES IT AT 1.56GHZ, MAKING MY 1800+ SEEM ALOT SLOWER THAN IT SHOULD BE...WHY IS MINE @ 1.46GHZ, AND IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG IN CONFIGURATIONS??
Make sure your mobo is set to 133 fsb. I would try a program called "cpuid" available as a free download. It's listed in yahoo, and you download the "cpu-z" program.
1.46GHz...wow...this is VERY interesting indeed........but i believe i have the answer =)
Example...
I have an ASUS A7S333 Motherboard and a AMD Athlon XP 1600+ CPU.
now...when i keep the multiplier at 10.5 (which is defualt) it will ALWAYS say the chip is a Athlon XP 1600+ NO MATTER WHAT FSB speed i set it too......now this means in ur bios...ur FSB speed is set to 127MHz as opposed to 133MHz.....which makes 1.46GHz........ur BIOS CPU ID String will still say XP 1800+ and Windows and all software possible will still say XP 1800+ also...BUT ull notice ur FSB setting will be at 127MHz or 254MHz DDR..... Please...go into ur bios and change ur FSB setting to 133MHz......than ull see....
thanks for replies, heres what I did regarding FSB:
first of, CMOS SETUP UTILITY by AWARD SOFTWARE
MB: MSI 6330 ATX (KT2 TURBO)
In the BIOS I went into the option called: FREQUENCY / VOLTAGE CONTROL
The I saw the following:
CPU VCORE SELECT: DEFAULT
AUTO DETECT DIMM/PCI CLK: ENABLED
SPREAD SPECTRUM MODULATED: ENABLED
CLOCK BY SLIGHT ADJUST: 133
CPU CLOCK RATIO: DEFAULT
As you can see it states 133, but I dont know exactly what this would mean by "clock by slight adjust", is this measured in MHZ as well?, what do I need to alter so I get the full out of my Athlon.
change that section from 133 to something else.....see if theres a default setting or anything really....chnage it..than save changes reboot..see what happens.....
