K so I bought a pc133 128Mb sdram strip. After I got home I discovered to my horror that my 633 processer is in fact a beastly 66 multiplied by 9.5. I was not amused. My mother board is a via p6vaa http://www.ecs.uk.com/support/cpu_p6v.htm the first in the list. My problem is this, I cant get the memory to work. I have tried the jumper that forces a 66Mhz to run at 100Mhz but the system hangs straight away. Any ideas or do I need a new cpu - if so will the amd duron 1.0 Ghz fit in a socket 370? Sorry if its obvious answers but I'm borderline suicidal with this now. Thank you anyone for there time and help. Mike
You have a Smelleron, it runs at 66Mhz. When you set the FSB to 100 you are overclocking the Proc to 950. That's why it's hanging. You can attempt to do this but it will require a heavier cooling solution and more than likely a voltage increase. ECS is not known for overclocking so I doubt you'll get your Smelleron to run that high.
Duron will not work in Socket 370 (Socket 370 is Intel/Via procs only). If you want to purchase a Duron it will require a new Socket A AMD motherboard.
If you want to upgrade your system throw in a P3 1Ghz, you can get a retail one for around $115-$120.
I dont know much about how well a 633 Celery overclocks but try increasign the voltage to 1.80 or 1.85 VCore....
as for ur memory module not working that u just baught.....thats strange.....try takign out the module that was originally in there....put the new one in that slot......boot up..if it wokrs...good....now put ur old module in another slot.....ok.....if it works good..if not....i dunno......set ur CAS Latency to 3.....
Your motherboard should support PC100 and PC133. Check in the bios for memory speed adjustment. Trying to increase the FSB too much will end up in system failure.
You could always use your PC133 module and make it run at 66Mhz FSB. According to your link, you could use a P3 Coppermine and use a 133Mhz FSB.
