I have the following system configuration (kind of old PC):

CPU: AMD Athlon 800
motherboard GA 7ZX
RAM (PC133 SDRAM) 640 MB
Hard Drive: Maxtor 540RPM
Video: GeForce2 MX

I am planning to upgrade my CPU to the Athlon XP 1700 (I have already flashed my BIOS to support this...correct me if this motherbaord does not support XP). My question is , will I get a significant performance boost even if I don't upgrade the other components. I eventually want to upgrade the motherboard and RAM type, but not at this time.

Do you guys recommend that I upgrade my CPU to get a performance boost?

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Assuming the chip will work(havent checked) you will notice a signifigant boost in performance, not earthshattering, but still very good.

If your mobo is version 5.1 or later, it should run AXP fine. The GA-7ZX is a KT133 mobo, but version 5.1 is based on the KT133A chipset.
So, check if you have the KT133A chipset. If so, then you're in business!

Is there a tool which can give me this exact information i.e. whether it is a KT133 or KT133A. What about CPUId?

It's been a while since I ran WCPUID. I don't recall if it shows the actual chipset (maybe others have an answer to that). I use Sandra from SiSoftware. Under the tool Mainboard Information, you'll find info about the chipset.
Otherwise, look directly on your actual board and search for the version number (usually near the AGP slot or on the edge of the board). If you have 5.1 or later, it should be a KT133A (according to Gigabyte's Website).
