No, this would not be true, you just have to have drivers for the particular modem that you have. I have a SM56 Motorola PCI software modem, and it works just fine in W2K, but Motorola does make the drivers for W2K. Just look at the companies web site to see if they make W2K drivers for your particular software modem.
Yea but just because a company makes win 2000 drivers for their product, doesn't mean they'll be compatible with every system configuration.. I have 2000 complaint drivers for my soundcard and everytime i turn on sound in ME and 2000, my system freezes.. Yet I never get that problem in 98SE.
