Tom is keeping it a secret but he's selling out to Ziff-Davis. No doubt Intel want's greater control over what Tom spews, assuming he stays onboard.

Hey Tom...what happened to the best writer on your staff (yes, he's a far better writer than you), Van Smith? I'll bet your page views go in the toilet now.

If Tom is like many germans(capitalists to the core) I know, in a few months I will be viewing this page like I view all zd-net media, another Ntel propaganda machine.

The almighty dollar wins over journalistic integrity. I sadly misread Tom. I really thought ZD was the antithesis of what this site was about. Time to look elsewhere for the truth!

Has anyone notice how TechTV has started recommending Athlons since it was bought from ZDnet? I received a poll from ZDnet once, and one of the questions read "Intel is a major sponsor of ZDnet. Do you feel that this has affected the objectivity of our reporting?" Uh, duh, Alex, could you repeat the question please?

Reply to Crashman

Toms (or someone from there) have not replied to this yet, could it be true?

Reply to Anonymous

this makes me very sad... I have noticed that you can get to tom's from ZDNet but I was hoping it was a mistake. Pretty soon every site is going to be a part of cnet.... *sob*

Reply to Anonymous

that's bad news for sure.

where did you get it? does Tom really plan to sell THG to ZDNet?

please gimme the link.

Uhhh TechTV wasn't bought by ZDnet..... ZDnet changed it's name to TechTV.

Reply to Grizely1

Uh, I didn't say bought by, I said bought from. And Leo Laport said Ziff Davis sold it to another company.

Reply to Crashman

So much for unbiased reporting!

Makes me wonder about the P4 reviews!

Oh well, if you can't beat'em, buy'em.

All hail Microsoft and Intel. We are your slaves...

Learning has begun.

By the way, who is Tom's competitor? What's his url?

Learning has begun.

Where's your source? No offense, but as far as I can tell, without a source, you could just be another troll or something. I certainly hope this proves to be untrue.

Yeah, really. Someone creates an account just to make this "special announcement?" The writing style seems just like that of some other cretin who occasionally posts to get his/her kicks out of causing a stir.

Perhaps the good doctor, who I'm sure has read this thread, would like to address these allegations?

Look, the bottom line is there's no sense in getting into a tizzy (sp?) about something you have no control over, whether it happens or not.

While I'm certainly appreciative of Tom providing this forum, IMHO, it's pretty obvious that Tom's Hardware Guide has lately become more of a commercial venture than anything else. I'd actually be suprised if something like a buyout didn't happen sooner or later...if the price was right and/or Tom wasn't that interested in it anymore.

I'm personally not into the site that much anymore as I'm not that crazy about the changes, and the quality of some of the articles doesn't seem as good. That's just my opinion, of course.

Mike

Edit: Thought I should add that I also feel this is Tom's site and he has the right to do whatever he wants with it...whether or not I like it.

I have to agree 100%. Although I still enjoy the articles on Toms page, and I agree in principle that big corporations and objectivity are mutually exclusive, it's very easy to tell someone else not to "sell out" when you're not the one who put all the hard work into something, perhaps getting a little tired of it, and are in a position to "retire" with a healthy benifits package.

I work for Tom's Hardware Guide and I just talked to Tom only hours ago. This BS isn't true.

Reply to Michael

uh, i think whoever said that this person just created the account to make a stir is right--> the account was created 11 minutes before the post was made, the total posts are equal to the number of posts in THIS thread, and no other information has been supplied (contrary to EVERY other single person i have ever looked at)
congrats folks, youve just been scammed, hope you feel better :)

Here's the link I found about this subject.

It doesn't say anybody has already been bought. Sounds mostly like speculation to me.

I'm not scamming anyone. Until Tom publishes something to the contrary, I stand by my allegation. Regardless of what Michael says, I still say he's selling out.

Say something, Tom..............

Only time will tell.. If Tom is a real bastard or wrongly acused...
I still believe in Tom personaly.
He can be proud that we are discussing it on this forum..
That only means that his vote counts in the world...

Never let your best man down.. NEVER!!!
Now he can see who his real friends are...

I vote for TOM..... Do you?

For me it is just a rumour. Nobody is "guilty" till the contrary prove. Time we'll solve this problem too. I'll wait to hear Tom's opinion about this rumour. For me he is an impartial man. Like I said till the contrary prove. I'll be the judje for that. C.U.A.

HEHeheheeeeeeee........
This is hilarious you guys. Just look at all the posts up here. There are antagonista, protagonists... it's a regular Shakespeare novel! Did you notice the people saying :say something Tom" as if Tom was some omnicient God? heheeeee.... (Couldn't help it)

ok, well lemme put in my 2 cents. I don't care. Tom's Hardware is the greatest site for computer equipment, hardware, and new release information. Reguardless of who buys who, it still has that potential. If the articles are *biased* than deal with it. Nobody ever threatened anyone's life if they didn't take absolutely everything to heart that Tom's articls said. It's a free information site, BS happens.

So Tom, ( I say on my knees with my head bowed *chortle*) keep up the good work. I'll allways be loyal : )

*God bless Tom's Hardware! Every time I post, I set out st least 4 (hopefully) helpful replies. Such is the way the community grows!*
(hehe... kinda ironic that my signature ending fits in with my joke, huh?)

Tom's hardware site is one of the best. Biased or not biased is a very subjective topic. The only complaints I have with Tom's hardware are the writing skills need some work (but then again, if I were to try and write an article in German it would REALLY suck) and the fact that reviews are only posted once every two or three days... very slow. It is my guess that Tom and company are busy doing other, more improtant things (conferences, etc.).

ROCK ON TOM! (Alright, sorry, I just couldn't help it)

If Tom is owned by Intel (Which I don't believe will happen) How could anyone expect anything better than what certian sites/mags/shows tell us. I was watching some little TV breif thing (the type of thing that stations put on so people will watch through the commercials) praising the P4 as the best CPU out now and the Best for long to come and urged all to go and pick up the 'marvelous processor' ASAP! Is that the kind of crap you want to read from Tom's?

I think your right.
