I have an MSI-6380 KT266 Pro MB and an Athlon "1800" proc. I can't get it to overclock even to 1900. Any tips would be welcome. I thought about tweaking the voltage. but I don't know how much is safe, should I tweak the mem voltage too, should I change the bus speed, etc? Thanks in advance.
No man stands so tall, as when he stoops to tweak his rig.
how far you can overclock depends on the abilities of your cpu.
i have a XP1800+ too and it requires 1.85v to get up to XP2000+ speeds (1666mhz)
generally up to 1.85v is ok, provided you have a decent CPU cooler. if you dont, it will likely get too hot and keep freezing.
im assuming your CPU is multiplier locked, so the only way to overclock is to increase the fsb.
best way of doing this is reduce the memory timings to conservative settings, raise the FSB a few mhz and try running. if it freezes or crashes, reboot with a slightly higher core voltage.
two good programs to use are
MEMTEST86 and PRIME95
memtest checks to see if your ram is running well. if its not, increased ram voltage may help.
prime95 is good for subjecting your cpu to full load... get it nice and hot, see if it overheats and locks up or crashes.
think my biggest piece of advice i can offer is 'go slow' do things a bit at a time, thouroughly testing as you go. find what works and what doesnt.

You can unlock any XP yourself. Run a google search on "unlock AMD AthlonXP", and see what turns up. You can even search the boards here.....your question comes up pretty often.
