I have a question...originally when I ran 3DMark 2001 SE I noticed that my XP1800 was only running 1ghz because the FSB was at 100 instead of 133. I turned it up to 133 in the bios but when I run 3DMark 2001 SE the computer restarts and sometimes it randomly restarts. Do I need to adjust the voltage or anything else? Why is it doing this? Thanks for your help in advance!!

hmmm. typically these sorts of problems can be attributed to a few factors such as
a. low quality/poorly performing ram
b. insufficient cpu cooling (allthough that should result in freezes, not reboots)
c. insufficient power.

some system specifications might be hand in this instance... including brand and model of the PSU.

set the cpu voltage to the correct voltage. Refere to your manual!!! Thats what you should have done before putting together your system. Should have read the manual.

I have Corsair 2700 512mb Ram
300watt Antec PS

Which manual should I refer to? The motherboard?

According to a utility..the mainboard is running at 49C and PC1 is 56C and the +12V Core is at 1.76 and it is highlighted in red...what does all of that mean?

Reply to Socrstud16

hmmm. those numbers sound really screwed.
i BET your using asusprobe!

Anything highlighted in red usually means a problem with it. Perhaps your core voltage is too high.

It's also possible your motherboard is an older Socket A and may not support a 266 MHtz FSB. What is your motherboard brand, model, and chipset?

Its an MSI KT3 Ultra

What should be the proper Voltage for my computer? Is there any utility programs to cool downt the computer? Thanks!

Reply to Socrstud16

well firstly you need the right program. us regulars reccomend Motherboard monitor. a free and nice system monitor program.

your cpu (core) voltage should be 1.75v

there do exist utilities to cool the cpu by halting cycles when its not in use...
however they obviously dont work as soon as you run at full load, so in my books they are pretty useless... as one is most likely to have problems at full load.

here are some suggestions for you.
to make sure your ram is behaving properly, download and run MEMTEST86 for 30mins or so... its very good at picking up memory issues.

as you have a 300w antec it should be ok... but you may wat to check it out by watching motherboard monitor when operating.
keep an eye on the 5v line, anything below 4.8v is worrying, and could be the cauze of all your reboots.

failing that, maybe a fresh windows reinstall.

56 degrees is a bit hot at idle. Probably when you run 3dMark it gets up to or greater than 60C which is usually the crash point. Get a better hs/fan and use a quality thermal compound.

It's an Athlon, that's normal operating temperature for them.

Overheating causes a hard lock, I doubt its heat, crank up your ram voltage to 2.7, does this resolve the issue?

 Heatsinks, if you dont overclock, use the STOCK!

a board temp of 49 degrees celcious is insane............i would put a little 40mm fan on ur chipset............

as fro case air flow....do u have ne case fans newhere at all?? u should have at least 2....1 intake at the front and 1 exhasut at the back..........

How do you know? My XP1600+ on Abit KG7-RAID (overclocked to 1633MHz 2000+) and MP1600 on Abit KX7-333R (also overclocked to 1660MHz 2000+) never go up to that temp at MAX load.
Either his temp monitor is incorrect or he needs a better HSF.

 Good or Bad have no meaning at all, depends on what your point of view is.

56C is not terribly hot, but some chips may lock at that temp, the fact he gets random reboots and not hard locks indicates to me it is NOT, i repeat NOT a heat issue.

temp monitor is incorrect.
1.something volts for his 12v line? dont think so.
