I have an Asus CUSL2-C mobo with a P3 800EB and 512MB of generic PC133 SDRAM. I am using a Creative Labs GeForce2 GTS 32MB DDRRAM AGP4x vid and a WD 7200RPM ULtra ATA100 hdd with a Cretive SOund Blaster Live! sound and 2MB cable. I only get around 30fps average in Quake III Arena online and wondered if just a video card would speed things up so I don't have to upgrade everything? I am thinking about a GeForce4 Ti or MX, is there a significant diff? WOuld an MX work for me? Thanks guys.

Don't know about the real gain in performance, but AFAIK DON'T BUY the MX!

Maybe TH graphs can help in your decision about upgrade ...

Wow that sounds like my sons comp exactly. When I upgraded it to a G3 TI 200 his 3dmark scores jumped over 2500 3Dmarks.And almost another 2500with a G4 TI4200.

DO NOT BUY A MX CARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sorry about the yelling but too many people make the mistake of buying an MX.Maybe I can stop you from the same mistake.

With a TI200 you can play any game on the market today with good frame rates at almost highest detail settings. With the Ti4200 set everything to max and enjoy.

I aint signing nothing!!!

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like 30FPS is pretty slow even for that setup.

But then I re-read and noticed the "Quake III Arena <b>online</b>" and had to wonder if it is just simply your internet connection that is slowing you down. Do you have broadband or are you using a dialup? What kind of frame rates are you getting when not hooked up to the internet?

yeah if you have a crappy software modem that can also slow you down. I have a GF2 Mx on a p3 750 and I get 70fps in CS, which probably equates to about 70fps in quake 3. Theres definately something wrong with your setup. Make sure you have the chipset drivers and that your graphics card drivers are up to date

My sig's faster than yours, and it overclocks better too....
