1) It's 266MHz, not 256MHz
2) It's not even 266MHz its 133MHz FSB Double pumped. It does 2 instructions per clock, one on the rising, another on the falling, which inturn calculates to 266MHz FSB
3) Using DDR333 meaning PC-2700 or PC-333 DDR RAM on an Athlon XP makes perfect sense. All the latest chipsets support Asynchronous FSB/Memory operations, meaning you can run at a FSB of 133MHz with the memory running at 166MHz (266MHz DDR and 333MHz DDR) therefore what is the problem ??
Anyways I hope this has helped you with whatever the vague question was that you were trying to ask.
In the RAM forum, a similar vague question that wasn't related to the subject also turned up.
One "What is the difference between SDR and DDR" with the content asking also what is the difference between DDR266 and DDR333, go figure.
At least phrasing the content asked would have both questions in the content, and properly asked.

Most likely......if only people were more clear and READ about what they are asking B4 posting....oh well we are still here to help, but there is just WAY to many common posts....
I mean if I do not overclock my cpu how can my 266 MHZ FSB athlon use 333MHZ DDR Ram effectivly? I can buy 266MHZ DDR ram and it can do the same thing.
Keep in mind that the CPU is not the only thing that requires direct access to memory. Many devices including the video card, HD, other IDE devices and your sound card may request direct access to memory which means the memory bandwidth would have to be split among these. Having faster memory than the processor can eat up makes sense in these cases.

To answer: As imgod2u said, you can add that no, usually 333MHZ on 266MHZ bus is not too helping, if at all. In rare cases like the Pentium 4, which eats any bandwidth you give it, it will give some improvement, but on Athlons, you need a higher bus as well!
You can buy DDR333 so in the future, should you buy AMD processors, you can keep it.
