Hello guys.
A very strange thing happened to me.
After I installed a new P4 2400 533 CPU on a new ASUS P4T533 mobo, and started the pc on the first time, the BIOS didn't set the CPU automatically - I had to configure the multiplier and the BUS manually.
I was kind of surprised, for I read more than once, that Intel’s CPU's multiplier is locked.
Moreover I was happy - more options 4 overclocking!
So, the first time I set the CPU to "right" values - 133Mhz FSB, and a multiplier of 18 (18x133=2400), and decided that first I'll set the PC up, with an OS and all that [-peep-], and play with the CPU a little bit later.
Well, "a little bit later" it turned out that the multiplier change option was somehow grayed out...
I'm just wondering, is this the way it should be, or I did something and missed a really nice OC opportunity?..
I'm absolutely sure that I changed the multiplier - I set the CPU attributes manually, and only afterwards the option was greyed out.
Any ideas will be appreciated!
Uhm, you do know all Pentium 4's minus the engineering samples are multiplier locked. The motherboard can adjust the multiplier in the bios, but the chip won't budge.
Soon enough, Intel will make the i845s...imagine dual channel Sdram...*shudder*
