Ok this is totally baffling. A few days ago I installed a Tualatin-S 1.26 + Powerleap adapter on my system. Worked like a charm for four or five days. Then last night I turn my machine on and all the fans and both hard drives come on, but there's no beep and the monitor doesn't get a signal. WTF is going on? I figure it's either my CPU, the Powerleap adapter, or my PSU. Here's my system:

AOpen 300W PSU (been working fine for almost three years)
Abit BX-133 RAID motherboard
Powerleap PL-370/T Socket-370 to Tualatin upgrade
Pentium III-S 1.26 GHz w/ stock HSF
3dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP
SB Audigy
network card
SB AWE32

Tried to turn it off and on several times, even tried clearing the CMOS. I never smelt anything funny and when I took the HSF off everything looked A-OK. Anyone have any clue what's happening? Unfortunately I've already sold off my old CPU so I can't test to make sure the mobo's fine.

I was nervous about trusting this Powerleap thing and it looks like I may have paid the price. I can try taking my CPU in to a computer shop and testing it. I doubt the CPU is dead though, I never gave it too much voltage or anything. I suspect the damn Powerleap. Would appreciate ANY advice!

Thanks,
Ritesh

I've heard a lot of other people swear by the Powerleap adapters. Maybe you just got unlucky?

I'd assume that you did all of the usual things like check the power cables, blow out the dust everywhere (mobo and power supply especially), make sure everything is seated right, blah, blah, ad nausium. :)

Without spare parts laying around though, I don't know how you could check what is the true culprit. Can you RMA the adapter?

Yes both the CPU and Powerleap adapter are still in the warranty period. In fact, the CPU is covered by Intel's 3-year warranty.

C'mon this is a hardware forum, has no one run into this kind of problem before? Fans and drives power up, no beep and nothing on screen, but working fine the freaking day before??!

I've ruled out the power supply by swapping it out. Ruled out a short against the case by running the motherboard outside the case. Oh, the CPU does get warm when I turn it on!

Anyway, I'm taking it to a shop this weekend to get it diagnosed. I hope the poor Tually's still breathing...

Indeed the problem was the Powerleap adapter! Got it diagnosed this morning. Motherboard and CPU are both fine, Powerleap adapter's dead. I'm returning it to the seller and getting another, later revision (no choice if I want to run this Tualatin CPU on my mobo).
