From what I just read on Via's website it appears that the XP 2800+ will not work with the KT333 chipset all they are saying is upgrade to the KT400. Bummer!

sounds like crap too me.
They just want you to buy another board. and why wouldnt they... its their main busness afterall!

many KT333 boards support 166fsb, but only unofficially. overclockers have been running their CPU's at 166fsb and beyond on such boards quite well (depends on brand though)

the only problem i can forsee is that a KT333 wont naturally "detect" that the cpu's stock bus speed is 166 (thus requiring a manual change) and the cpu wont be detected as a XP2800+.

Anandtech's review of the NForce2 (with the 2800+) used a Epox's KT333 board. Worked just fine. Anandtech did this because they noted that many KT333 boards outperform KT400 boards, and wanted to show the best non-Nvidia board for the review.
