I am trying to use ghost across a network, my problem is that once I establish my connection ghost will not see the ntfs drive on the computer reciving the image. I am using ghost 2002. The online manual is not very in depth on this subject. All it says is that ghost works on all fat and ntfs partitions

Are you able to see from one PC to the other normally? i.e. are you using the proper cable (crossover)?

yes, this is over an established network. When I conect ghots only sees the a drive.

on the target machine, are you sharing the drive you want to send the image to?

there is not browse network with ghost, you have to map the shared drive or directory before you run ghost.

i went to the tomshardware forums and all i got was this lousy signature.

I will try this and let you know. I do know that I have at least one shared folder on the reciving drive but I could not see it. Maybe it is because the whole drive is not shared, so I will do what you said and let you know.

Thanks

Well I shared the whole drive but I still can not see it when I run ghost. Ghost is installed in the drive but no luck. I have heard that because ntfs is secure so you can not do what I am trying to do, is this right or am I still doing something wrong? Why did nortons website not warn you of this or the manual for that matter!!

please help I really do not want to reistall and make a second partition using fat32.

thanks

ghost can see the A drive on the target (remote) machine? Thats odd.

Not really sure how ghost works. Do you have to install a client piece on the target machine? Also, I tried 7.0 just for kicks. Apparently with that version I had to make sure I had a DOS bootable diskette that supported the NIC - redirector and all that. Is that how the version you're using work?

Well I don't know if I have to install some sort of client. The manual does not say anything about that. Yes I have to use a boot disk with all that stuff. I am connecting just not seeing the targat drive

I was just playing around with V6.50 - when you click on TCP/IP do you get options that say "Slave" and "Master"? If so, it's alluding to a client server type of setup. When I choose slave, it attemps to serve a slave. When I choose master it attemps to connect to a master. Does this all sound familiar to you? Have you been doing this all along and I was just telling you stuff you already know? If so, I apologize. If not, check into this.

yes, I have done all that, that is how I connect to the other computer. After that is where I can not see the target drive.DO you or anyone know of other imaging utilities that would not have this problem? I am not giving up, I just want to know

well, of course there is drive image (just about the only other imaging utility out there) but I can't say if it would have this problem or not.

What is the OS of the machine you're trying to write the image to?

I am using xp as the computer that is going to be an image server.I would like to store diffent images to restore computers quickly.I just started to play around with drive image pro but I do not see where I can use it across a network.I know of some one else that has the same problem with ghost but not with image pro. although I am not sure if he is going across the network. He could not image from drive to drive out side the computer using ghost. If you know how to go across the network please let me know.
I am thinking that if I use the same boot disk as ghost but use disk image instead of ghost maybe???

Thanks for staying with me on this!!!!!!!!!!

you say you CAN see the A: drive on the target (XP) machine though? Thats what puzzles me.

I wanted to try this at work today, but I got too busy. Are there any config options within the server portion (thats running on the XP box) which would enable drive sharing? I'm just guessing here. I do have ghost enterprise 6.5 at work so I will try it out hopefully tomorrow.

Hey JLANKA
Sorry I have been away for while. I have been extremely bussy so I have not been working on this problem. If you have found out anything please let me know. I am downloading drive image pro, it is supposed to do what ghost is not doing. I was trying to do this with the regular drive image but it does not support networking

thanks
