AMD 2600+ ~$250 (not yet available)
P4 2.53 $243 (newegg.com)

Overall, neither signifacantly outperforms the other and they're about the same price. However, the P4 has SSE2 (Streaming SIMD Extensions 2) support while the 2600+ does not. In these applications (usually multimedia software, for example ULead's VideoStudio 4) that are SSE2 optimized, the P4 signifacantly outperforms the 2600+, so in that case I choose the P4.

the 2600+ IMO, is the best bang for the buck...but...it only exists on paper (for the time being)...
id say...go with the P4 2.53 and overclock the kimchee out of it...

im not sure if the 2600+ will debut close to $500...
the 2400+ is already around $200...i dont think the 2600+ will be twice the cost...
anyways...i still think that the AXP are still a better bang for the buck (you can get a 1800+ for less than $100...can you find a P4 1.8a for about that price?)
anyways...this is only an opinion...

In the USA the prices of the P4 and 2600+ are closer to equal but that still doesn't give any justification for buying a 2600+ unless you already have a socket A motherboard or want to go socket A in the future (like me).

In the past I have always bought AMD because it is more bang for your buck. But now The P4 2.53 is cheaper than the AMD 2600 and I heard that the P4 2.53 is a little faster. Every year you have to upgrade which makes this a very expensive hobby. So I always try to find the best deal without losing quality.
