First of all let me introduce myself. My name is Colby and this will be my 1st post ever on this forum. I have JUST recently started to become "in-the-know" in the area of computer hardware and technical specs. I've known how to run a computer and do all sorts of things since about 7th grade. I dabbled in "punters", "ip stealers", "random programs" and all sorts of useless junk that involves messing with, or playing jokes on other peoples computer. well, i got bored with that nonsense and started becoming a major gamer. right now im HUGE on Neverwinter Nights. currently playing in a world called Argyle. www.lonerhino.com/arglye/harbering its really well thought out if anyone is interested.
anyway, my current computer couldnt handle the graphics. its a retail bought from HP and its a horrible computer so i bought a new one. a REALLY good new one. but from what ive read athlons run really hot. so heres my scenario.

athlon 2100 XP
i have a thermal display and 3 fans. i havent gotten the computer now so i cant tell u where they are (i ordered the computer from www.Ibuypower.com and its currently being shipped. it should be here by friday) but i will be sure to post wherethe fans are aimed at when i get it. but do you think 3 fans will be enough or should i plan on buying more. i also have a heatsink so i guess that should help. but as i said... i have a thermal display so it will tell me what the temperature is. what would you do?

Atleast Jesus loves you.......

See my system below: Sorry about that I assumed you'd ordered the parts and wanted to know how to build a quiet and cool PC. My system has a fan pushing air in the front, one pulling air out the back (which creates airflow through the case). My power supply has two fans; one directly above the processor which sucks the heat up and one that blows out the back. Of course the GPU on my video card has a fan too. My CPU uses the stock AMD Heat sink and fan and runs at approx 44 degrees celcius at idle and my system temp is about 34. Hope this is more helpful.

Your CPU will have a fan mounted on it (on top of the heatsink). Your video card may or may not have a fan the manufacturer decides if it warrants it,, all GF3s and above have them. Your power supply will also have a fan blowing out the back (mine has two built in). I'm guessing that the three rfans you're referring to are one pushing in the front, one pulling out the back and the one built in your PS. Can you post a link to your system specs. That way I could confirm. Don't lose any sleep over it though. Run your system and then post your temps. We'll let you know if you're running too hot. Check AMD's recommendations here http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/white_papers_and_tech_docs/cooling_guide.pdf Gotta go to bed so I'll check this forum sometime tommorrow. You're on the right track by posting here and reading up on systems.

way too many fans.
my system has:
1 80mm cpu fan
1 rear 80mm casefan

Thats it for cooling fans regarding the CPU.
And of course its got the obligatory PSu fans, NB and graphics card fan.

Your system is going to have about 5 fans....maybe even 6......and just so you know....its a MYTH what u hear about Athlons running hot.....they dont run any hotter than there Pentium 4 counterparts.......You will NOT have to worry about heat unless your system is locking up...crashing, BSOD'ing, rebooting itself.....stutters......anything like that....if it does any of those than be worried......BUT we cannot tell u u need "more fans" if u have not even got ur system yet and u dont know what temperature your CPU and Motherboard run at.....

I Have an AMD Athlon XP 1600+ CPU clocked at 2000+ speeds with a ThermalTake Volcano 7 Heatsink & Fan combo and 2 80mm Case fans and a Enermax Whisper series 465Watt Power Supply unit which has 2 fans built in......my idle temp. for the Athlon XP CPU is between 32-34 degrees celcious (depends on how many people i have in my basement and for how long, but usually at 33 degrees) and never surpases a MAXIMUM of 40 degrees celcious......thats WELL within exceptable limits....akso keep in mind my case is not very big and quite cramped inside so im sure ur case will provide room for better air-flow than mine.......

Anyways don't worry, dont lose sleep over it....waitr until u get ur system...than post back with your temperature readings and let us know how stable your system runs and all that......
