the Athlon XP 2800+ won't be available for the massmarket until Jan/Feb 2003. So, Barton surely won't be available until several months after that...

I can't remember where, but in fact it seems that Tbred "B" 2800+ is at the maximum of the arquitecture's capabilities. I mean some site try to overclock it for a mere result of +77Mhz (real and overall) result. Don't ask me what kind of cooling they where using (sorry), but seems that currently the only way to improve the performance is going to be add L2.

Anyway, we still are far from see the 2800+ available :-(

IMO XP arquitecture can't go much further, if nothing in it is changed. Probably as the product matures some better results can be achieved (higher frecuencies), but for me the additional L2 is going to be the last silicon improvement.

Prediction: Barton are going to be the new K6-3 (the last of a generation and the better option to maintain our socket A platform alive)

DIY: read, buy, test, learn, reward yourself!
