My head is about to explode. I'm trying to gather information on the limited number of slotkets available out there. I have never used one before and I am completely confused.

I have an Abit BX-6 rev. 1 that has been sitting here for several months. I inquired about slotkets back when I got this board and it appears only rev. 2 can handle one. Last week I got my hands on a BH-6 rev. 1 which supposedly I can use a slotket in.

Here are my questions (please answer them without using big words):

1: I came across a Star Tech slotket for $11. http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=50115879&csearch= Has anyone ever used one of these? Are they decent?

2. Do I need an onboard voltage regulator like on the Power Leap or is that just for overclocking?

3. Do I use an FC-PGA or a PPGA and what the hell is the difference?

Coincidentally, PowerLeap is located about a 10 minute's drive from my house! I checked out their website and they list a slotket/1.4 Celeron combo for about $180. That seems a bit pricey. I don't want to put that much into a motherboard that's 4 years old! I'd really like to stay on the cheap.

Thanks in advance for any response. Remember not to use big words.

The MSI 6309 has adjustable vcore and works well; Abit slotkets can be unreliable. If your motherboard supports the 1.65v Coppermine you can buy one without this feature.

You should get a FCPGA slotket the one in the link is for the old Celerons.

I think Powerleap sells normal standalone slotkets as well, try their website again.

The one in your link will work as long as your board revision supports Coppermine core CPU's (some early boards didn't support less than 1.8v natively, don't know if yours is affected). I'd try it. If it doesn't work due to the previously mentioned voltage issue, I can help you make your CPU run at 1.8v on that slotket. That Slotket supports all Coppermine core PIII's, which were available at speeds up to 1000EB (where the B stands for 133MHz FSB). Also, if your board supports the lower voltage natively, you could get a 1000E Slot 1 (notice no B, it's a 100MHz bus processor), which performs less (due to lower bus speed) and cost more (due to rarity) at $132 but wouldn't require PC133.

Basically, I can't tell you whether revision 1 of that board supported the lower voltage. But if you buy that slotket, I can tell you how to raise the detected voltage of a Coppermine core CPU to match an earlier board.

No, the one in his link supports PIII's.

OK buddy, heres the most info I could track down for you, and if this one won't do what you're after, I don't know what will, I temporarily shared your grief, this was a pain in the rear to track down, hope this is what you're looking for. Ryan

Thanks all. Maybe one of the problems getting my hands one one of these is that it is known as a slotket or a slocket. I've only been doing searches on slotkets!

I picked up a Celeron 1000 FCPGA and ordered some Mushkin PC133 Cas2. I went ahead and ordered the slotket from CompUSA. On their site it only says it's for PPGA and makes no mention of FCPGA. I hope this works.

One other thing. My BH-6 is a rev. 1.02. Do you think I'll have a problem with the voltage?

I couldn't find any info on the voltage, I just hope what you're getting works for you, the link I posted said it worked on all slot 1 M/Bs, but there was no mention of different voltage jumper settings, even though it had FSB jumper settings and other jumper settings. Ryan

Black_Cat, quit sweating it! The one you're getting will work for you, it auto detects CPU voltage and sets itself up, you set the jumpers for FSB, Processor type, and single or dual processors, so you are good to go. Ryan

PS I went to the manufacturers website and got my info from their spec. sheets.

I see your mistake, that's the part number, not a description.

Okay, okay. It's only $11. I just feel like I'm going at it blindly. I have never used a slotket before. I'm a slotket virgin. I'm just getting a little shaky. I haven't played UT2003 in a few days!

Thanks for the link. It's too bad I didn't find that link before I bought the slotket from CompUSA. I could have saved $6!

All in all, if I can get this Celeron to oc to 1.33GHz for a total of about $130 I'll be quite happy. And if I don't you'll be seeing more posts from me.
