Does anyone know speed differences between dual processor and single processor systems? Take for comparison trying to find out game speed from dual AthlonMP 2200 which is the fastest MP that is currently available to the masses or single processor XP 2400. Since Dual systems are usually behind the times on the speed and mainboard chipset it would be interesting to find out. I am a net engineer but also a gamer. So I come to the crossroads myself do I buy a XP2400 (XP2600 not available to masses yet) or dual MP 2200 how do they both compare in games? Then it will be easy to take that comparison to an Intel line of CPU’s to see the overall top performer.

At best in games, a dual MP2200+ would be only slightly faster than a single XP2400+

For 99% of the games, dual CPU is wasted money.

The only game i know wich is SMP enabled is quake. For the rest of the time, the other CPU will be almost idle.

with the cost a dual cpu and mobo, you can buy a GF4 ti4600 or a radeon 9700. Way better investment for games.

Even tho the games are not SMP the OS is and IO would be less of an overhead issue and therefore increase overall speed of any game. Is this correct?

You're talking about very small numbers on that.
