need to get into PII cartridge. How do I get the black alum heatsink off, has 2 silver clip things with some type of lever , then how do you take the plastic case off?

Flip the lever up, then remove the sink. It might be glued on with hardened paste, you might need to pry it loose.

The black cartridge is snapped together. You have to pry it appart. You're less likely to crack it if pry at the snap points.

Getting the chrome clip off (inside the black cartridge, holds the heat transfer plate on) the back is a pain. If you look at it you'll see how it's snaped together also.

I've seen screwed on heatsinks (4 screws into the transfer plate) but not screwed on casings.

Hey Crashman & Meltalrocker havn't opened it up yet but did manage the tape covering the B21 lead to raise the FSB. Don't know what speed it's running at but the HD read time and disk access time is 30% better. next will try covering the A121, B119 & A119 leads to raise the core volts from 2v-2.2v if I can find them

Raising the voltage is only for stability. If it's already stable, don't raise the voltage!

I had a P2 266 with only a HS no fan. The HS was riveted to the cpu. It came out of an IBM netfinity. I had to drill the rivets out to put a new fan & HS. This was nice CPU at the time because it was before the CPU's were locked it ran a 350 mhz (3.5 * 100) on a BX motherboard.

Those things that look like rivits aren't. They're allen head screws that are so poorly made that you can't really see the six flat sides very easily.

They could have been allen(hex) screws. I tried to remove them with a hex key but could not.The drill worked just fine.

Yes, with the last one I removed I had the PERFECT sized hex key, one that required force to insert, but I still stripped one bolt because the flats were so...round to begin with. Since I already had three bolts out, I simply pryed it apart and ripped the last screw through. It only hurt the screw. Then I reinstalled the sink using case screws instead.
