Ok, I'm having an argument with this idiot who thinks he knows all but doesn't. Basically, he has a dual 1.5Ghz Xeon system, and claims that it's really 3Ghz b/c dual means that ur using both procs at full load simultaneously. I'm trying to explain to him that's not possible, and that apps never use em both at 100%, or even efficently. How do I go about explaining it to an idiot? Suggestions please.

In terms of theoretical calculations, dual 1.5s are actually greater that single 3.0s. You have twice the execution units and twice the cache size. However, in terms of actual performance, 80% of the time dual 1.5s run like a single 1.5. In terms of timing, you're only as fast as your fastest item. You may be able to carry twice as much but you still move at your governed rate. A good analogy would be this. I race two cars that go 50mph against one car that can go 100mph. The 100mph car comes in first and the two 50mph cars tie for second. Is two second places or a second and third better than one first. Not in horse racing and not in video games.

Complicated proofs are proofs of confusion.
