yes, depending on the brand and other components in the system.

I would guess that it would be ok as long as you don't have a ton of fans and a high power video card.

80w chip
70w mother board
25w fans
50w graphic card
40w drives
20w misc nic sound etc

~270w

and most items only draw at peek usage. I'd think you would be ok...

System Overview:

AMD Atlon 1800+ xp cpu/volcano or coolmaster fan
FIC AD11 XP mobo with amd 761 chipset 266fsb
PC 2100 256 ddr memory
Sound blaster live 5.1
generic modem
Older dvd-cd rom drive...2 or 4x i believe
Maybe one or two case fans...depending on case
GF4 MX440 64mb ddr video card (Am trying to decide which maufacturer in graphics thread ...havn't bought yet)

Thank you so much for your reply...I was beginning to lose hope last nite...went to bed and woke up to these new post!

Not all 300W PSUs. Mine only supports 5.5A (+12V), 7A (+3.3V), I don't remember the +5V. I can't boot w/ my GF2 GTS + Pentium III 700MHz because of that (the GTS draws 3A and the P3 draws 10A from the +3.3V).

About the MX440: get a card w/ 4ns memory.
