It sounds like the video cable has come loose.
Have you checked your video cable connections at the PC and the monitor?

What do you mean by 2 - 3 blackouts? Were these power failures?
If you have tested the monitor on another PC and it works ok I would try reseating the graphics card. However that would not be possible if you have a motherboard with integrated graphics.

If you can provide a little more info about your system we maybe able to help pinpoint the problem.
What motherboard, cpu, memory, graphics card, powersupply, etc do you have?
Other things to try would be to see if you can enter the BIOS at start up.

of course
i have the same cable many times plugged and unplugged

yeap, there were some construction work at the bulding so there were some blackouts....and unfortunately some power failures

the monitor is being used already by two pcs (not at the same time) so i checked it on the other pc. Alse the graphic card has been checked on another pc and another v.card has been checked on this pc...nothing new :(

pIII 935
abit m/b with via chipset
512MB pc133

cdr teac 16x
...thats it :)
aaah and 3 hdds :)

hmm.....power goes through the board?? Fans spin?? HDD Spin up?? id say if ur board isnt dead some how....that maybe ur cpu popped....or the ram........

try swapping EVERY part...MB being last.....or try all ur parts includign CPU, RAM and PSU as beign the most important asside from the MB....

At times my PC will appear to start, but I get "no signal" on the monitor. For some reason the PC will fail to post and I have to cycle the power to the power supply for the computer to post correctly.
Have you tried cycling the power to the power supply?

I would pull out the SoundBlaster card, reseat the video card and boot up with only one DIMM installed.
I would also reseat all the power connections and IDE cables. As well as blow all the dust out of the case and power supply before booting up.

If that didn't work I would then verify the hard disk is spinning and all the fans are spinning at boot up. Then I would start by exchanging the video card with another one.

Also when you boot up do you hear any BIOS post beeps?
If you hear more than one beep count the number of beeps and the sequence of long and short beeps.
Check your motherboards user manual or manufactures web site to decode the beep sequence. This will tell you what device is not posting during boot.

zpyrd i ve tried everything you said and more but nothing happened....i tried the video card and the memory to other pcs and they worked fine. I also tried the hdds and are ok. The fan of the cpu works fine but the cpu i dont know. The m/b opens (the led) but nothing more...so whats the prob? and what about cycling the power to the power supply...how do i do that ? :))

Reply to abarth

Cycling the power to the power supply is done by unplugging and plugging the power cord a few times.
Do it when the computer is off.
A few power supplies have circuit protection to prevent overloads from damaging pc hardware. Cycling the power is used to reset the protection circuit.
I have never seen or used a powersupply that needed to be reset this way. Personally I think cycling the power does more harm than good.
If you have a multimeter you can measure the power supplied to your hardware with the computer on. Just be carefull with the probes. If you have another power supply available try it. You don't have to pull the old one out, just swap power connectors on the motherboard, hard drive, floppy drive and CD ROM. And fans if they are connected directly to the power supply.

Were you overclocking your cpu when this happened?
Its looking like your motherboard has gone bad or the cpu or the powersupply.
All I can think of trying now is reseting the bios.
The motherboard probably has a jumper on it to reset the BIOS. If it doesn't then you can try reseting the BIOS by removing the cmos battery on the board.
If you do this I recomend that you go to the motherboard manufactures website and download your board's BIOS onto a bootable floppy.
Maybe the powerfailures have somehow corrupted your system BIOS. Its a long shot but anything is possible.

Abarth i used to have a a similar problem. My computer would seem to start up ok but nothing would show up on the screen i would have to re-boot to fix sometimes many times. I did notice though when it would boot with the monitor not turning on it would make diferent beeps. See if you have different beeps. Like you i thought it was my video card but after getting a new one i saw the same problem.

It turned out to be the RAM. Try running different RAM and see if that fixes the problem.

The only thing i know...

is that i know nothing at all.
