I have an Athlon XP 1700 that came with a stock aluminum cooler. My motherboard (Abit AT7) has a temp gage just on the underside of the chip (placed in the middle of the socket). A monitoring program came with the mobo software and checks out with readings in the bios. The problem is that I'm getting temps of 50-55 C depending on conditions and use of the computer. This is non-overclocked temps. Are they too high? Should I pick up a copper cooler? I didn't know what normal temps for this processor were.

Thanks

as long as the computer is not locking up on you, your temps are fine. if u still want to lower them try some case fans or pick up a better cpu cooler. max temp is up around 80 to 90 deg. celcius

hmmm. OK, thanks. I can only over-clock it up to Athlon 1900 XP speeds. I thought maybe I needed a different heatsink. Could I up the voltage a bit to overclock higher then?
