Perhaps I am an idiot but I truly need some help here.
Currently I have the above with Geil PC-3500 memory and currently I can not get same memory clocked over 133. I have no idea what I am doing wrong here. According to Geil it may be my CPU and according to other sources it may be the Geil chip. Could someone please help me with this? Basically I set the CPU clock to 133 and any time I set the CPURAM Clock Ratio to anything other than 1:1 my computer won't boot. Any ideas? Is it my P4 Chip?
if you're not OCing your p4 chip (2.53 Ghz right?) and it's running fine when the memory's at 266 then it's the memory not the chip, the chip's being run normally
maybe changing the memory timings will help, are they really aggressive right now?
wait is this a 2.5? meaning 100 fsb? i dunno if this exists but if there's a 1:2 fsb/memory setting on your mobo (or a 3:6, obviously) then set that and only put the fsb up a little, to simulate ddr 433, if it runs fine then it's your chip, if it doesn't then it's the memory
When you say memory timings do you mean the CAS setting? I currently have that set at 2.5T. Basically I don't believe I am overclocking the board/chip at all. I think tonight I am going to try replacing the memory and/or bumping the Clock speed up a little to see what happens.
Hi...I can actually help you with this problem...I think! I just built a computer using the same MB and CPU (I used Corsair memory). My CPU would run a 1.9/400 instead of 2.53/533. There is a program you can download from Intel that will "read" your system and tell you what it should be running vs. what it is running. I was a little disappointed to say the least. And whenever I booted up the BIOS would say running 100mhz, not the 133, it should. Anyhow, there is a problem with the BIOS...go to the Shuttle website (shuttle.com) and look up your MB and go to downloads. You need a bootable 3.5 to save it on. Reboot your computer with the disk in and run the program. It will change the BIOS settings...reboot and go into setup and change the speed to 133. Mine works great now...good luck!
I did update my BIOS to AS45S045 and did get it to run at 133, however, I can't get the memory above DDR 266. Have you got your memory above 266? What CPURAM ratio do you have set?
Sorry to have bored you with things you already have done. When you select 133 for the CPU speed it automatically assigned a ratio to my DRAM. I had to change mine back to 1:1. My DRAM CAS Lat is set at 2.5T, and my System is set to Turbo Mode...I don't know what will happen if I would use the Ultra Mode...I'm not that brave! Let me know what you find that works and maybe I will venture into uncharted territory. Hope this helps.
Hey I didn't say that I had updated my BIOS in earlier posts so thanks for the suggestion! Basically the problem I am having is I have a mobo that says I should be able to clock the memory at higher than 266 and I haven't been able to do that yet. However, I haven't been able to switch the memory (yet) and I think that will be the next step. I have tried bumping the CPU from 133 to some higher number and keep the CPURAM ratio at 1:1 and that didn't seem to work either. So I am thinking I have a problem with the memory I have.
Solution: Well just wanted everyone to know (if anyone is still reading this thread) what the solution to my strange problems was. Apparently Geil has problems with motherboards reading the memories SPD. Basically, I had to go in and manually set all my memory settings (couple of different screens and I had missed one in my earlier attemps.) After I did that everything started working fine!
