new AMD system

my friend wants to build a new AMD rig for high end gaming. what cpu, mobo and video card would you guys recommend. his system now is a Athlon 1600 with a (soyo k7ada i think)wants a faster system than he has now. will not be overclocking. the XP 2000+ is going for $94 is this a good cpu to use. he wants a kick a@@, so he will spend $$. he said something about a self updating mobo whats that all about. thanks.
just looking for good advice.
