I just removed my loud ass Cooler Master HCC 002 heatsink and installed a quieter Volcano7+. Well after installing the new heatsink, my computer won't start up. I used artic silver 3 as the thermal compound, so its not like i didnt use any so that aint the problem. Heres what my computer does, I press the power button, the fans turn on, and the computer beeps 2 or 3 times, followed by a long beep then everything turns off. Please help, I dont know if i shorted my cpu, or if this is an automatic safety that I didn't turn off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
PHEW!!!...I really did think I fried my CPU last night. But after about an hour of studying the circuit and consulting the MB manual, i found out that the computer kept shutting of because of the CPU fan fail safe. If a fan isn't hooked up (in my case hooked up properly) to the CUPFAN1 slot on the MB, it automatically shutdown all power to prevent the CPU from burning up into a little ball of flame. Thanks for suggestions. I feel so sheepish, but greatly relieved.
