Ok, writing a 20 page paper on quantum computing and need to include a tidbit about Moore's Law. It states that computer components become 2x as small every 18 months, right? Also, can u guys give me the timeframes of .15 micron process, .13, etc (need to provide example)?

i think it's 2x as many transistors will be fit onto a chip in 18 months...not necessarily that the chips themselves will get smaller

What exactly do you mean by timeframes?

Also, if chips had been 2x smaller, the Tbred would be like 50mm^2 by now, or heck, we'd be using sub 40mm^2 chips!

That law really has many different thoughts by people, it's rare to find one who has the actual definition, which is about the 2x transistor count.

As far as I am concerned, there are no CPUs using 0.15m, only GPUs do. I could be wrong though.
For GPUs it's a hard one, however the 0.15m is nearing its end with NV30 in December.
For CPUs the 0.18m was there since P3 Coppermine, back in 1999 and has ended this year, or last for NW.

Via C3 0.13m die size is around 50 mm^2 (53 mm^2, IIRC)

AMD decided not to make 0.13m Duron Appalossa. If they made it, it might have a die size of 50-60 mm^2

I used to know that, but it's been near a year since I haven't looked at that specifically. I can tell u other stuff, just that i totally forgot the micron procesesses. Just askin cause this paper is worth 15 grand and recognition.....

Holy moly man you are spoiled!

Good luck anyway, and I want an interest fee of 45% for my help and wasted time!

Via was the first to use 0.13m technology. (Or Intel P3 Tualatin, not sure)

I am pretty sure it was Intel's Tualatin who came first. The C3 came later on with the 0.13 core.
