Hello,
My vista-based laptop died recently and I had to get Win7. It made me make several "profiles" and over the month, they have all failed, until today the only remaining one is failed. If I click on the user icon, it says "the user profile service service failed the logon. user profile cannot be loaded." So I can't open any programs or screens. Can't get to the start menu. I can get to the setup menu by hitting Esc on re-start, but that is all I can do. Can you help me get these profiles back to working? Thanks.

restart the computer and hold the F8 key down, when the boot menu comes up select Safe Mode, after Windows starts open an command prompt (All Programs, Accessories, right click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator" ), in the cmd prompt type sfc /scannow see what happens, BTW you can go to User Accounts and create another user account if necessary while in Safe Mode and let us know how it goes
