Modem Tweaking

Hey guys. I live in a little town in Connecticut. I've been told by my cable and phone company they will never upgrade their lines so suscribers can have cable modem/dsl. Sucks huh? So here I am, a gamer when I have the time and have to play on a freaking 56k modem. But, I was able to ping 120-130 with my cheap 56k modem. At the time, I was running windows 98 and did some kinds of tweaking to the modem to get it to that low of a ping. I formated and run windows 2000 now and cant get my ping that low anymore. Does anyone have any tweakign tips or reasons why I can't get my ping so low anymore. (fyi. I ping about 150-160 at best now);
Thanks!

Try here. This may help, although I don't know much about Win 2000 http://www.tweak3d.net/tweak/modem/

That's to bad about no broadband connection. Time to move! :)

You may want to consider satellite if you are really determiner, throughput is a reassy insane figure

But satellite is much worse than a 56k modem for gaming... best ping time is upwards of 500ms and probably nearer to 700ms. Two-way is worse than one-way of course, since the signal has to travel twice as far into space and back.

Really? wow that's awfully high.. where'd you read that or is it from experience? I'm not debating, I want to know more.

been there..dont that. Im still waitin on broadband in my area..however i watched em install fiber optic cable less that a mile away so i dont have much longer to go..hehe. In the mean time ive used isdn...which uses ur existing phone lines..only makes em digital. I mostly game too and ping round 43 to mplayer. check with ur local phone company for availibility.

Life is faster than 56k!
