I am new to the world of networking. I have built home computers and also repaired them. I have been chosen to maintain our current network at my place of employment. I understand the basics of networking (how the workstations retrieve information off the server) but as far as connecting a computer to the network and setting up a internet sharing connection, I am somewhat lost. Can anyone offer my any advice or suggest websites I can visit for more information. I am more of a hands on learner and pick up the basic concepts quite fast. Thanks for any suggestions you might have.
how is the network setup? do you know the basic setup of it ? ina corporate environment its not like it is at home, theres more to it then simply plugging a few windows 98 systems into a hub.

hmm, 98 workstations not really a good idea as roaming profiles and such are out, I presume they are on a workgroup as against a domain, which actually makes it easier in a way. As long as the nt server is setup as a dhcp server, there will (should!) be no problem simply plugging another 98 system into the network and off you go, IM not sure about ICS on windows nt, and I no longer have it so I cant look for you, but Im sure someone else can advise on that. If you are simply maintaining the network, there should be no probs at all, however I would read as much as possible on 2k server incase it does have any probs. Check how it is configured (I would assume its on a workgroup), check the group policies etc.
