Hey irawan, you have to jump in somewhere, if you wait, them something better comes along, then you think you should wait because something even better will come along, and you have missed out on the knowledge and experience you would have had

think the PC market can make a smooth transition to 64bit platforms? i think its gonna be hell, it may damn well drive everyone back to apple2's, hey we could still fit solitaire onto our 700kb hard drives

No. It's never worth it to buy a new computer, or any computer for that matter. Notoriously bad investment. By one now and it will be wothless in three years, worth half its value in 6 months. If you wait, the same thing will happen. So if your looking on advise on when to buy, it's whenever or never.

I agree and disagree with everyone (I think that is why I was born). I have never been very concerned with mobo/proc combo, and much more concerend about the drives and cards that I install in my box. If you spend $1500 getting all of the good stuff, ie: SCSI everything, brand name stuff 3com adaptec creative yamaha kenwood toshiba micron seagate/ibm, a good power supply and a rad looking case, good keyboard (check out kinesis) mouse (hate to admit it but microsoft intelli rocks) and forget about always having the fastest proc/mobo you may find that you are much happier and have a computer that is still rad in a few years, (with yearly proc/mobo renewal of course).

I built a computer well over a year ago and many of my parts are still envied by my friends. BTW, within the next month, I will have more drives than my case can hold (it is a mini-server cube) so I have decided to build my own out of LEXAN, will let you all know how it turns out.

Give me a break. PCs will always rule over Consoles. As soon as PC hardware gets lower in price everyone wil have a gaming PC instead of a console

You can wait all you want, just as the others have suggested, and will end up not purchasing. Otherwise, I would suggest using the newer boards such as the Abit K7TA-Raid or Epox 8KTA3+

sometimes a small investment at the time just for a hold, then a big investment in the right time might be better than all big investment at once ;/
