if CAD programs are your thing...well either of the two should be fine...though there was something on toms quite a while ago about ATI firepro and I cant remember what the Nvidia alternative was....obviously stating that professional cards had different profiles...to blow the CAD stuff out of the water I would go for one of the
http://www.dell.com/us/business/p/precision-m6600/pd

But thats big bucks, also those vendors of MATLAB , LATEX et all, didnt I read somewhere that they only support the pro range as oposed to just the normal graphics cards...i.e. there are special drivers for the pro range that integrate or work with these softwares, and only these drivers....thoough turning a "geforce to a quadro" (just remembered the names)i guess you could try and do a search on it...before u take the plunge..

Bottom line.. if you are gona make money from the laptop i would ditch the two you have there as you can get graphics cards with like 4GB RAM, you'll only need something like that in CAD apps or obviously from what I gleem if you are running multiple desktops....

If you want to save your bucks then it comes down to which you think is more aesthetically pleasing....They are bout the same spec... I recently had your quandry and went for the XPS 15 (or DELL XPS L502x) it worked out cheaper and I got more for it than the 15z...plus something bout the 15z just says mug me...
