Not sure if this is the best place for this, but anyways. I've been asked to look at building a system for my brother for Christmas. I've been out-of-touch with current hardware since I built my last system 2 years ago. I'm looking for suggestions on all major components for a fairly moderate-high-end (is there such a thing?) system. The machine will be used for schoolwork as well as gaming (I'm sure). The target budget is approximately $1000-1300. Any suggestions? Or perhaps point me to some models for various parts and I can pick up from there. Thanks in advance.

Hello. In the $1000-$1600 price range, quality of product increases exponentially per dollar. Would you consider increasing your upper limit to $1600?

Overclock the 1.8A to 2.4GHz at 133 bus and you'll have a great system for $979 plus shipping. I suggest you buy the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers locally.

I can't understand why anyone would spend that much for a CPU when the video card and gaming is the weakest part of a modern PC.
