In my Windows control panel, under system, why is my Athlon XP 1700 showing up as like a 1.1 gighertz? I thought it was supposed to be like 1.4 or something. Do I need to change something in my bios or something? I don't want to overclock or anything, just want it to run like it's supposed to.

I think you should update your bios. Some softwares like "AMD CPUID"can check the default frequence of AMD's CPU.

change your fsb to 133mhz and if it runs unstable then it might be your ram my friend's comp was working normaly and he installed new ram then boom a week later his 2100+ was running at 1.3ghz so we took the ram out and it fixed it self well just a thought good luck!

Yeah this is happening to my 1600+ too , and I've also added new ram, but I havent verified that it is the ram thats causing the problem. Is this a AMD fault or is my RAM bad if it doesnt run stable?

if you added ram and now your system is unstable then you have bad ram.. nothing to do with the processor (probably)
if you upgrade a computer and it starts being unstable then 99% of the time the upgrade is the problem.. dont automatically blame the processor..

I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message.
