Converter or Docking station

Hello,
Obviously the function of a docking station is the connectivity made easy but doe the docking station bypass the battery through alternate power terminals? Another way to ask the question is.. IS there a benifit to using a docking station rather than running a laptop all day long on the power converter?

There are powered and unpowered docking stations and port replicators. Most are unpowered.

As far as I know there are no differences and no advantages either way.

Ok, the 1 advantage I can see for the powered docking station is that you don't need to lug your own power adapter around with you, back and forth to the office every day.
Most get around that requirement anyway with a 2nd AC adapter left at the office.
