P4 Power supply

Last response: in CPUs

Hi, I have an AMD 1.1ghz thunderbird on an Abit KT7 mb. I'm planning upgrading and going for a P4 2.8 system. I currently have a 300watt power supply. Will this power supply work on a P4 or do I need a new one specifically for the P4 cpus? I thought I read something that said P4 have an extra connector for the Power supply.

If I do need one, what is recommended and what wattage is recommended?

I'm planning on going with 512mb pc2700, 7200 rpm 80 gig hd, ATI 9700 Pro, cable modem, and soundblaster 5.1 live.

Thanks

No, you don't need a new power supply for a P4. I don't know if your 300W is powerfull enough for the 2.8 however. You can try it though. If your power supply doesn't have the extra square ATX12v four pin connector, you have two choices:
1.) buy a motherboard can use a drive power connector instead, such as Asus makes.
2.) buy a four pin drive power to ATX12v adapter.
