I am attempting to upgrade an old Athlon 600mhz slot computer to a slightly newer system since the MB blew out. I'm not looking to play the newest games, just use office applications and internet surfing. How does the config below sound (assume i already have an ATX case, monitor, dvd-rom, etc)?
A7N-266-VM AA motherboard (fits in regular sized ATX case?)
Athlon XP 1800+ - 2000+
512MB Crucial PC2100 DDR-SDRAM
30-40GB hard drive (el cheapo 7200 RPM Maxtor drive)
New power supply (400W?)

THe integrated sound, LAN, and graphics on the MB should be good enough for me now. How does this sound to everyone? I have to order tonight from newegg.com because i need this computer ASAP. Thanks in advance.

For $9 more you can get 60gb hard drive. Yeah you may never use it but you never know, and for $9?

i had an a7n266vm with xp 1800 and it was very good.the onboard geforce 2 graphics were certainly ample for your purposes.it is also micro atx so it will fit in an even smaller case (micro atx case) if you choose but i would recommend that you go for a midi atx.the onboard sound is very good too.
all sounds very good to me but you can get away with using a 300w psu- unless you plan some major upgrading.
happy building.

no matter how hard you try, you can't polish a turd. :]
