Just got an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ and was wondering if its really that risky to install with the stock fan. I heard the chance of the CPU burning up with the fan it comes with is pretty high. So any advice?

If you don't plan on overclocking you won't have any problems. I run my 1800XP with a stock fan at 42-43 degrees celcius (idle) and 45-48 degrees celcius under load.

nope mate, the stock fan is OK if you run at stock speeds, just make sure (as with any HSF) you install it well and have the HSF seated on the CPU die in the correct manner.
