I am going from an athlonXP 1800 to an athlon 1.33 on an Iwill XP333 MOBO. When I installed the MOBO I get an "unknown flash type" error. The Computer posts, and reads the processor correctly as a 1.33, but when it gets into loading windows xp I get the following error on the blue screen:
can not load setupdd.sys, error code 7
Setup can not continue, press any key to exit

I have attempted to flash the bios, but everytime I get the "unknown flash type" message.

My question:
Does the Athlon XP put something in the bios that would be causing this type of issue? If so/or if not, how do I go about correcting this?

May I ask why are you downgrading your system?
It's unlikely that Athlon XP "flashes" the BIOS itself. Is your HW ok?

I can boot from a floppy, but it would hang at the same point if it tried to load windows. I had the board on an 1800+ machine. I needed a new board to replace a bad one, so I upgraded the 1800 machine to an A7N8X board and put this into the 1.33 machine. The only Hardware I have installed is an Asus CD Rom, 256 stick of memory, Geforce2 GTS, and an IBM Deskstar 20 Gig HD. Every component worked fine till this day. The board was working fine till the swap.

The HD has been reformeted and now I cannot even setup windows. I get a sparrow.sys error during install. I really don't want to swap the processers to see if it will work, what can I do. Everytime I try to flash the bios, it says "unknown flash type" The only thing I can think of is the XP processor puts something in the bios. I have been working on this for like 15 hrs now. It sucks!

I believe sparrow.sys is part of the scsi driver. You can also try a "Reset Configuration Data in BIOS" or clear BIOS from the jumpper. I have no idea why you can't flash your BIOS.

Dichromatic for your viewing plesure...
