ok i have a strange problem and don't know if its

My MOBO
My drivers
My HDD
a conflict between hardwares
or WindowsXP

ok system specs first

2.4Ghz P4
Giga-byte GA-8PE667 ultra 2
2x 512Mb DDR SDRAM 333 (2700)
leadtek Geforce4 ti4200 128Mb vid card (MYVIVO edition)
120Gb seagate baracuda v ata100 Hdd
LG dvd drive
Aopen CDRW drive
floppy Disk drive

on board the MOBO
10/100/1000 LAN
5.1 channel sound ac97
Raid chip (4Gb HDD is located on this)
SATA chip (no HDDs or anyhting yet)

ok my problem is when i "EMPTY" my recycling bin using the EMPTY RECYCLING BIN command then the HDD instantly STOPS (e.g. instantly with a click click click as it stops)

the CPU usage goes up to 100% and the computer freezes for about 10 secs
the HDD then speeds up again and everything is fine again

it does the same thing when SHUTING DOWN, SYSTEM RESTORE, and sometimes when DFRAGING.

the funny thing is that if i "explore" the recycling bin and select everything from within it then "right click" selecting "delete" from the menu, EVERYTHING IS FINE, its only when i choose "empty recycling bin" and the other mentioned times

WHATS GOING ON

ok i have sent one HDD back for a SMART failure (80Gb baracuda iv)
i am worried the new one will also get damaged because of it. (i don't know if the last was because of it but i suspect.

is it my MOBO or a conflict between my vid card and mobo (only card installed on my computer, no pci cards at all)
or is it WinXP.

the thing is if i return my components under warentee and they are found not to be faulty then i get charged $60. WTF
i don't know which one to return???

all drivers are up to date, and yes even on a FRESH install of WinXP the problem is there (i am running on a fresh install now except for about 3 programs)

thanks for your help!!!!

I'd suggest you go to seagate's website and download their diagnostic software. It sounds like something on the drive is corrupt. Run their software, and choose their most intensive test. That will tell you if the drive if fubar.

I don't think it's a conflict. I usually see this when something is corrupt on the drive itself. Are you using 24" ide cables? Have you jarred your computer, so that the drive could be damaged? This is what I think it is. Damage to the data on the drive, or to the physical surface of the drive.
