They are the current t-breds with an added 256KB of L2 cache, bringing it up to 512K. Also, it'll be called Athlon XPs, the Hammer will be the next name change, Athlon 64. They are supposed to be released ~XP3000+, but we're not quite sure what the clock speed will actually be. It'll run with a 333MHz FSB, which may migrate to 400MHz.

Yes, on release they will have the same BUS as the new athlons do now (166 * 2 =333). But eventually they will switch to 400mhz bus.

Barton will most likely have 400MHZ FSB.
Hammers don't have a real FSB so we cannot know if there is one, what speed will it run at.

They're gonna start at 333MHz Eden, then maybe transition up to 400MHz. They won't start off at 400MHz FSB.

Which is why I said "most likely". But it is almost sure, AMD may give the denial attitude, though Anand also believes it is true. May not be the first Bartons, but it surely will. I would not be surprised if they simply go for it as the initial version though it's best to have 2 as most current boards only support 333MHZ except the KT400 and nForce 2 chipset boards.

nForce 2 boards support a 400MHZ FSB? All the specs I've seen say 333/266/200

I'm sure they'll support a 400MHz FSB easily. They'll probably just need a BIOS update and also, they've already got DC DDR400 implemented, so I'd guess a FSB of 400MHz shouldn't be hard.

Damn. I probably should have ordered a PC3200 stick instead of a PC2700.

Yes the memory already supports DDR400. You probly should have got the 3200 Corsair XMS cas2. Its only like 5 or 10 bucks more than the 2700. And even if you notice the 2700 performing better, you can always run the 3200 at 333.

they would need a bios update to use 400fsb processors but on the a7n8x the jumper is there- 133/166/200 fsb.

How do you run a 3200 at 2700?

I skipped out on the 3200 because when they are used dually they become cas 2.5. I had thought 2 PC2700 running at cas 2 would be better than two PC3200 running at cas 2.5 (this is for a 512 stick)

Reply to RumblePen

You tell the BIOS to run them at 333. And I don't understand what you mean by running them dualy creates a CAS of 2.5. 2 sticks of the corsair 3200 cas2 = cas2.5??

According to the Corsair and A7N8X specs, when you use two 512MB Sticks of Corsair XMS PC3200 cas 2 modules, they are rated at 2.5.

This seems to be true for all 512MB modules above PC2700.

http://www.corsairmicro.com/xms/xms_modules.html
Click the specification links for the 512 sticks and notice how it says: Latency 2-3-3-T1 (one module installed)

http://www.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=A7N8X
Look at the Memory QVL Table at the bottom of the page.

Interesting, well I plan on using 2 sticks of the 256mb 3200.
