I live in Europe (Portugal) and can't find any Athlon 2600+ or above, so would like to buy it online. However, I can't find any site that ships internationally to Europe.

Why is it that users in so many countries cannot get new techonogy? That's got to be a bitch.

There are a few different reasons why it is hard to get certain technology in other countries. One of them is the shipping costs for U.S. based companies to sell abroad. By the time shipping and tariffs are added, often times it is not worth it to the company because there is not enough demand (i.e., they can't discount the actual merchandise low enough to make a decent profit). For example, say my cost on a new processor is $200, from which I expect need 10% profit (total cost = $220), keeping in mind that of that 10% I still have to deduct my overhead (personal services, inventory, etc.). Next, I have to pay $20+ to ship overseas, and a 5%+ tariff. Now my selling price is $220 + $20 + $11, for a grand total of $251. I have no room to decrease my profit on the CPU, otherwise I go in the hole and I cannot try to make a profit on the shipping and tariffs, or even just pass them along because at a minimum selling price of $251, I have probably placed myself outside of the market. In other words, someone in the foreing country can probably by it for about the same or less within their own country.

Another reason it is difficult to get hardware from U.S. based companies is due to the federal government trade export laws. There are many items that might seem commonplace but that it is illegal to ship them outside of the U.S.

Yes but why does that mean that you cannot even get the new technology at a high price? For instance why will you have to wait on the new nvidia card for months after we get it here in the US, price aside?

It is a problem living in Europe there are no cheap places to buy but I find www.monsieurprix.com fairly good, it has about 10-15 companys on there and there prices vary alot, but I don't know if they deliver outside of france, but shouldn't really see a problem. Also have you ever thought of looking through some computer magazines they usually name a few good places to buy thing over the net. Good look hunting

Make a factory on those countries? Inmy native country, the Philippines, there is an Intel plant...no surprise, Intel's rich enough to spread it's factories around.
