I am looking for a notebook as a gift for my Dad, he needs a fast and portable laptop for work and home use. I would like it if we were to include a SSD. I was considering an ASUS N55SF. Your recommendations? Thanks.

The ASUS N55SF with it's GT 555M graphics card is about as good a gaming option you'll find in a mid-range multi-purpose laptop.
Core i7-2670QM 2.2Ghz Quad Core CPU, 6GB RAM, 640GB 5400rpm HDD, 15.6" 1920x1080 LCD w/ GT 555M graphics
2.72kg, includes Blu-Ray reader DVD burner, USB 3.0 & Bluetooth 3.0 but only about 5hrs max battery life, about 4hrs in more normal WiFi surfing mode.

An option with better battery life and a slightly lower price to help you afford adding a SSD. You'll want to add your own to save a lot, but you won't get anything like 500GB storage. 128GB seems to be a good compromise.
