I have a Asus P4B266 mobo with a P4 1.7 willy, 512 corsair DDR266 and a GeForce Ti4400. I am thinking about dropping in a 2.4 P4 with the 400 bus. I know everyone is moving to the 533 bus, but at the moment I don't have the bucks to replace the cpu, mobo and ram. The performance gain with the 533 bus seems somewhat minimal at the 2.4 level according to the benchmarks on Tom's site. My question is whether I will see a good performance boost with the 2.4/400 vs. the 1.7 willy? The 2.4 can be had for $195 online. The alternative is to wait another 6 or 7 months and build a whole new system then. Thanks for any thoughts.

If you live near a Fry's electronics, sometimes they throw in a mobo with their combo deals for almost free. I got an msi 645e-max with 645dx chipset and 2.4b retail boxed for only $199 recently. Prices are a little higher right now on combo deals, but should come down again to rock bottom in Jan. I'm running this board at about 154 fsb (almost 2800). Newegg has some deals on refurb boards, or you can get a new abit sa7 for about $66. Bump your ddram voltage to 2.7 and your corsair should run fine at 333. They also had a refurb 2.4b for only $165 shipped.
