Im in the long process of choosing parts for a new computer (seems like everyone is doing that right now), and I, of course, need some help. I feel im am going with a nForce2 by Asus (A7N8X if I remember right) Not sure which ram im getting, gonna get either 2 of 256 or 2 of 512, im kinda here with limited funds. My video card is in the mail, its a AIW 8500 (128mb). My question is which processor should I go with. Should I spend more and get the 2200+ ($166), save with the 2100+ ($106) or wait for the 333BUS to come to cheaper models (currently at 2600+ for $300, which I can not spend). (sorry, 2nd question) Does anyone know when these things will get significantly cheaper?

Givin the good information you provided, I would recommend this:

AMD XP 2000+ processor RETAIL
Asus A7N8X Deluxe Motherboard
Two OCZ 256MB PC3500 Enhanced Latency (EL) Memory modules

I would go with a 2000+ processor now. Later, you could upgrade to future 400MHz DDR FSB Barton processor. Though, the 2000+ is plenty fast. This OCZ enhanced Latency memory is top quality and optimized for DualDDR (a feature of the Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard). Need recommendation for anything else: Case, Power Supply, other?

Wow, thanks SO much, you responded so fast. I went to check to see how many viewed, not responded.. haha.
Would it be worth it spending 10 bucks more on the 2100?

(these are all which I will be buying, but I do need help)
Case: http://www.dealsonic.com/cod6066cawat.html
There are 2 fans in front, 1 in back, one top and three sides. I am going with Vantec Stealths for my case fans. How should I set up intake and out? (especially with the 3 side)
Power supply: Going with Antec TruePower
Either 330 or 380, not sure because THG said they (namely the 380) work at much higher than rated (380-471)
CPU: Which fan should I get?
I read that stock works fine, but how loud is it. Read from THG that the Alpha 8045 is a good mix of performance and noise.

(side note: My god is memory expensive, im used to seeing prices for PC133 which I use now, but as ya see what I am getting, I dont wanna skimp out on this computer)

Case: Antec Performance Plus PLUS660AMG is a good case and comes already with True330 PSU (don't have the window though and 1 fan back, 2 fans front and one side). But it is up to you and if you choose the Codegen case the 3 side fans should blow air inside.
PSU: Antec is very good.
CPU FAN: Stock if you are not going to o/c. Both Alpha PAL8045 and Swiftech MCX462 are good HS. If you want quiet fan buy the HS only and a low rpm 8X8cm FAN.

I'd go with the CoolerMaster HHC-001 heat pipe. It rates a little better than the Swiftech and is half the price. Approx $35.

andlcs: Im gonna stick with codegen, it has 2 stealth drives, more fans, and is a lot cheaper even with the true330 (53 dollars)

macodi: How quiet is that? I am going for quiet fans here. I read a review, people love it, some mentions sound.

Gonna check out the swiftech right now, and the heatpipe on THG's fan review. Btw, the A7N8X comes with a CPU fan regulator. Should quiet down whatever is in there.

What is the minimum CFM that a fan should blow for a 2000?
And (sorry) Whats the deal with that AIOGA processor?

The performance difference is negligible but I guess either one is a good choice.

With regard to the power supply issue, the quality of the power supply is very important. It's not wise to try to shave dollars off in this area. I highly recommend this combo:

Chieftec Case (no power supply included) ~$50
Enermax EG365P-VE(FMA) 350W power supply ~$50

Both purchasable from newEgg.com.

I was gonna go with the Antec, I was told they are good, do you disagree? And with the chieftec case, I saw plenty of them, and I dont like the look of em.

Anyone know the deal with those AGOGA processors? And where I can get one in retail form? (newegg.com doesnt carry)

What sets this XP 1900+ chip apart from the other XP 1900+ processors is the core. The AGOGA cores are used in the XP 2000+ processors and the XP1900+ AGOGA chips are basically underclocked from the XP 2000+ spec which runs at 1.67GHz. The difference between the XP 1900+ and the latest 2100+ spec is only a difference of 140MHz and the Athlon XP1900+ AGOGA chips should be able to provide the user with an almost guaranteed Athlon XP 2100+ performance at the price of the XP 1900 which is much lower in comparison.

NewEgg sells the 1900+ AGOGA.

Yes, Antec is good. I think you can get better deal at www.Provantage.com ; I just recently ordered the Antec Performance Plus 1080AGM 430W p/s from them, and it came two days later.

Get the RETAIL 2000Xp. With the money you save you can upgrade to a 333fsb processor in a year and get a big performance jump.

yeah, I was going to do that, but probably the 2100 (only 10 bucks more, Its a mental thing) I would probably think if I got the 2000, that the 2100 would be better and only 10 bucks could of caused better performance.

Thanks for all your help guys!
