i am looking at spending around $700-$850 for a computer, minus the monitor, and keyboard/mouse combo. What i was thinking was a athlon xp-2100, a asus a7v8x or a7n8x or the gigabyte 7vax-p. I want a case with plenty of room and about 350watts??? I think. 256MB pc2700 kingston or cosair or what? 60-80 gb western digital hard drive. dont' need a cd-rom drive or a dvd-rom drive. I do need to know a little bit more about the motherboard choices. Like do I still need a ethernet card and modem if I get the Asus. Would like some options for a video card that is not too expensive, hopefully under $125. last thing, What other websites are out there that are respectable besides newegg.com, googlegear.com, and cyberpowerpc.com. thanks
You can go for cheaper Kingston PC2700 CL2.5 DDR if you don't plan to upgrade to Barton.

I agree with Spitfire. You mite want to also check out the new <A HREF="http://www.coldconcept.com/default.php/cPath/39_42/osCsid/bacb71282522ff2370ab505db85302d5" target="_new">OCZ PC3500 Enhanced Latency (EL) memory modules</A> - engineered for high Dual-Channel DDR performance.
But what about the motherboard, does that come with a good sound card and ethernet card?
With both of these issues, you are extremely well covered by the Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard as it has exceptional audio and not one but two ethernet ports (won't need an ethernet card).

I would just like to note that integrated audio can be just as good as sound cards (or better) depending on what you get. My motherboard supports 6 speakers and uses a great sound chipset.
