Hi. I have been able to unlock a 1700+ to run at 175mhz on this board with crappy PC2700 ram. got about 2.6GBps in sandra for ram test. so I got a XP 2100+ BOXED from new egg and right away I notice that its green, not brownish like my old cpu. I have unlocked it the same way I unlocked the 1700+ and all the voltages check out, nothing is grounded. I can set the multiplier to 13.5 but THATS IT!! nothing else works aside from 13 (what it came with) and I cant even get XP to boot with that. even at 1.85V. I dont get how it could kinda be unlocked, allowing me to set it to 13.5 but nothing else. I checked the bios from asus and it is an earlier one that I have now! 11/6, it came with 11/24 or so.. is there something weird going on here, or should I return it and get a 2200+ and try unlocking that??
I get horrible memory marks now, obviously. what chip would I have the best luck with running at a FSB of 166+ ?

Overclocking and unlocking is always a crapshoot. Despite testing, if all multipliers are not available, then your unlocking almost certainly needs re-doing.

When raising the FSB you would typically unlock the chip to drop the multiplier, not raise it, to keep the chip near it's operating limit whilst still increasing memory throughput.

What multiplier did you use on your 1700 out of curiosity?

the 1700 had 2X Kingston 2700 modules, they actualy ran stabily at 170 mhz at C2.5, not bad. they werent perfectly stable at 175, dunno if the voltage was at 2.8 or not..

well, I put the 1700 back in and im running FSB of 185Mhz now! that other CPU definately sux, cant even raise the fsb 4 mhz, it craps out. this 1700 is running at 1667 mhz now as a mult. of 9 is the lowest I can go for some reason. im getting 2730+ MBPS in sandra now. I was hoping for 3000+ but since I cant lower the mult past 9 it will have to do. running dual Corsair XMS PC3500 C2. any ideas on why 9 is the lowest? tried it in 2 MB with the same result.

I had a green 2100 that would not go below 11x multiplyer. I found this http://www.pcstats.com/articleview [...] 009&page=1 it might be a simelar situation for yours it might not. BTW the colour difference is a different core revision.

yeah. Its allways a gamble... some cpu's are so much better than others.
Take my recent experience for example.

Previous CPU: XP1800+ 'AGOGA' palomino.
Multiplier locked, stock voltage 1.75v, OC range as follows:
1533mhz stock @ 1.625v
1600mhz @ 1.750v
1666mhz @ 1.850v

What a turd. it needed the full 1.85v to get a measly 133mhz more than stock.

New CPU: XP1700+ 'AIURA' week47 TbredA.
Factory Multipliers !UNLOCKED! up to 12.5x, stock voltage 1.5v
1466mhz stock @ 1.4v or less.
1500mhz @ 1.400v
1583mhz @ 1.425v
1666mhz @ 1.500v
1750mhz @ 1.575v
1833mhz @ 1.700v

So for a cpu that cost alot less and ran 66mhz slower i got a whole lot more out of it, and as it came multiplier unlocked i didnt have to worry about PCI/AGP speeds, and could run it fine at 166fsb.

humm, where did you get your Tbred @ 1700?? newegg only has Tbreds for 2200+ cpus. I know they made them for some earier models.. BTW, is that green cpu crappy? I ran into another instance where a green cpu @ 1900 died for no reason...

OH, how is it that the Tbred was unlocked?? do you have some nforce2 MB? I have the A7N8X, but I think it only unlocks the TbredB.. and why is your stock voltage 1.4, I thought it was 1.65?

not sure where you were looking, but newegg does offer the thoroughbred 1700+ and 1800+ cpus. oem or retail...i'm still waiting for the 1900+ tho. http://www.newegg.com/app/Listprod [...] oroughbred

I live on Mars. I know nothing. God help me when it comes to computers.

wow, and all the Tbreds seem to be factory unlocked... nice!! I think I will get it just to play as its only $66 or so.. thanks!
BTW, do you know why I would only be able to set my mult. on my 1700 to 9? anything lower and it wont boot.

Reply to AlphaFox

If only that were a Tbred B, boy would it have OCed further. And I never knew the Tbred 1700+ would run at 1.4V, I thought 1.5V was the factory set voltage for the lowest Tbreds!

TbredB is only for 2700+ right?

Reply to AlphaFox

XP2400, 2600, 2700 and 2800+. Expected and confirmed to be carried on to all the other grades of the Tbred As.

your sig is malfunctioning

The solution may be obvious, but I can't see it for the smoke coming off my processor.

No it isn't, copy paste the URL, it works.
I made it on purpose to be non-URL tagged so people could easily copy paste.

Sorry.

Where are those non-URL tagged people? They should have to wear a sign.

yeah yeah. you try finding a tbred b under 2400 hehe
Mines good enough. a 25% oc at reasonable voltage. and its unlocked so i didnt have to worry about messing with it :)

1.5v is the stock voltage, but according to the 8k3a+ bios it can go down to 1.125v, allthough it doesnt usually let it get that low (For example, my xp1800 palomino was only allowed to get down to 1.6v)
1.4v is ubercool!

I got my tbredA from a local Australian store.
