Hi All.
This is my first post so bear with me. Here's my dilema. My brothe rgave me a $100.00 gift card to Compusa. I'm using an xp1800 with a Gigabyte Va7vaxp. My video card is a ATI all-in -wonder 8500 64meg. I dont use any of the features of the card,so I thinking of making a change. Compusa has the 9500pro for $219.00 or a geforce 4600 for $219.00 after rebate. I'm not a gamer, mostly graphics work and web browsing. I'm sure I'm leaving out important info.
TIA,
Zaxdad

Since you aren't so much into gaming as you said you might as well keep the all in wonder card. And you can as well wait 1 month when the new gf fx will arrive and the prices on the current ones will drop a little.

Graphics as in stuff w/ 3d s max? IMO, get the Ti4600 and turn it into a Quadro 900XGL w/ Softquadro 4- u'll notice a very nice performance boost.

Still, the quadros have some optimizations and what not for that too (remember seeing some dls' for that on NV's site).

Get the 9500 Pro but if you can wait for the FX to cause prices to drop.

I agree with Unit. If you're not gaming, you really don't need to upgrade to a 9500pro. I doubt you'd notice any difference in Photoshop, but the one in your wallet is no small matter. I'd put the money somewhere else, or save for a future upgrade.

If you absolutely HAVE to go buy a new card (I hate gift certificates...), the 9500pro is definitely the better buy and a really sweet card. When you say "after rebate", that doesn't mean "after I spend my $100 gift certificate", does it? I hope not... what a rip.

No. They have the 9500 pro for $219.00, so it would be $140.00 out of pocket. Except for a new processor I really don't need anything else. Thier prices on processors are really out of line. Got a new case, power supply and monitor for christmas(lucky me).

If you are doing a lot of writing to the HD you might want to get another and set them up as raid.
